At the moment Ichthyosis support group is the only thing running through my head. Some of you might know, others not a clue but Mason my youngest is affected by X-linked Ichthyosis. He is NOT contagious, he is not different and I have never really spoke about it until my older two heard another parent talking about his super dry skin. I fear as all parents due that he may be teased when he grows, we all know kids can be nasty and I worry endlessly that Mason will be too. I must say that is the end of it all though as Mason is affected so lightly, his scales only really show when weather changes and otherwise he is just a normal happy boy.
I Made a point of bringing Mason's condition to light after Caleb heard a parent talking about Mason's skin. He was upset and confused and I thought it was time for me to act. We as a family decided to run the 5K colour run, which we will do in July. I opened a just giving page and asked for donations and VERY slowly some came in (our goal was £1000). After a few months I raised £230 and all seemed to stop there, I felt discouraged and upset for the kids who I thought I was teaching a valuable lesson to and that if you work for something you will be supported and can do amazing things. Well £230 of £1000 was sadly not my idea of showing them that. I didn't know what to do and then I had an idea, ONLINE AUCTION, I started asking companies for donations and I had an amazing response, people really do care and want to help if they can, which is GREAT! I contacted some newspapers and media outlets and was asked to do 3 radio shows as well as The Chronicle wrote a piece on us, all seemed to come together, soon we had more supporters then ever imagined but no donator's....
I know I might sound greedy and the money isn't even coming to me but less the money and more the meaning of the reaching our £1000 goal, it means ALOT to me my boys see this for all the work they are putting in.Well a lovely retirement community got in touch, This lovely lady Isabel had arranged a Geordie night at the home. She had invited myself and the boys along to join in the fun and what fun it was! We played games and quizzes, we ate soup and stotties, we had a sing song and raffles. The ladies LOVED the boys and we so so happy, Isabel raised £427 for our Charity.
Our goal seemed so much closer and finally on the 23rd I finally had everything ready to go and the Crozier family 24 hour charity Auction, Everything seemed to go really smooth, though the fears of nobody bidding had played on my mind a lot. In the end we had got £635 in bids! I was shocked, completely and utterly shocked.
We are sitting at £1335.79 in donations (after the final 2 payments are made). I have organised everyone with how to get there winning items, sent away all the items I have in my possession and crossed the final T's and dotted the final I's. We not only got to that goal that I thought was impossible we surpassed it 4 months BEFORE our run!!!! The boys are ecstatic, completely over the moon that all their running practice has raised so much money, They know we had an auction, but we have told them all this is down to them running as without Ethan and Caleb deciding to Run a 5K for their little brother then I don't think we would of thought of doing something for Charity.
This has been an emotional, tiring, rewarding, learning process I honestly love I am able to focus so hard on this all and plan on having many more smaller feats in the next 4 months leading up to our run.
